History
The Center of Latin American Studies at the University of Kansas (KU) is distinguished by its quality and long term stability. Established in 1959, the center has been awarded graduate fellowships by the US Department of Education (USDE) since 1976 and was designated and funded by USDE as a Comprehensive National Resource Center on Latin America in 1983-1988 and 1994-2006.

Overview
The Center of Latin American Studies is home to KU's interdisciplinary academic programs on Latin America, facilitates graduate research at home and abroad, sponsors events related to the region, and develops outreach resources for area educators. Core, affiliate, and research faculty members associated with the center teach and research Latin America through a variety of disciplinary and interdisciplinary prisms, and mentor students interested in the region. The Center supports the publication of the Latin American Theatre Review (LATR), a journal dedicated to the scholarly study of dramatic performance in Latin America. A biannual newsletter The KU Latin Americanist highlights recent campus activities and faculty and student research on Latin America, and also publicizes new outreach materials and current funding, travel, and research opportunities. A virtual tour introduces some of the faculty and staff that make up the heart of Center.
