Leadership
The success of the research enterprise depends on many factors, including the quality of its leadership. On the Lawrence campus, Dr. Steven F. Warren, Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies, provides leadership for the research community. At the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Dr. Paul Terranova, Vice Chancellor for Research, provides research direction.
KU Research Mission
Although the Lawrence campus and the Medical Center have separate leadership and administrative structures, their mission statements reflect complementary research objectives. The entire research portfolio at the Medical Center is related to the life sciences. While research on the Lawrence campus is more diverse, life sciences research accounts for 49% of all sponsored project expenditures. Because of this shared focus, collaborations are widespread and increasing. These collaborations are facilitated by major equipment and services available to researchers on all campuses.
Research Administration
Each campus has its own research administration office. On the Medical Center campus, the Research Institute is the official unit for the administration of KUMC research projects. The KU Center for Research serves that function on the Lawrence campus.
