Constitution Day at Memorial Stadium (Pre-game)

KU fans are invited to recite the Preamble to the Constitution before the Jayhawks face Toledo on Family weekend. The Preamble will be displayed on the Giant Video Board in the stadium. Chancellor Robert Hemenway will lead the recitation while Elizabeth Berghout, carillonneur, rings the bells from the Campanile. Following the recitation, the Marching Jayhawks will play the national anthem.

Naturalization Ceremony
A Special ceremony swearing in new American citizens.

The United States District Court for the District of Kansas will perform a Naturalization Ceremony for around 100 new American citizens.

Wescoe Beach
Constitution Day on Wescoe Beach

Stop by Wescoe Beach on the KU campus for a few minutes, and join the nation in reciting the Preamble to the Constitution.  Leading the recitation will be Student Body President Hannah Love and Student Body Vice-President Ray Wittlinger.  Following the celebration, Elizabeth Berghout, carillonneur, will sound the bells from the Campanile.

Copies of the Preamble will be available at Wescoe Beach from student members of the Civic Engagement Council.

The Roberts Court

The Roberts Court: A wide-ranging panel discussion presenting a variety of perspectives on the Supreme Court under the leadership of Chief Justice John Roberts, who will visit the KU campus April 30, 2008. Questions addressed will include: How much has the Supreme Court changed with the addition of The Chief Justice and Justice Alito? On what issues may the Court come out differently now? Who is/are the "swing" vote(s) on the Court now?

In addressing these and other questions, the panel will discuss recent hot-button cases involving affirmative action, partial-birth abortion, campaign finance, freedom of speech and other important constitutional topics.
