(Update: 6:15 p.m. July 4) Lawrence Police Department Media Release—Death Investigation: An arrest warrant has been issued for Adolfo Garcia-Nunez, DOB 10/05/1961. The charge on the warrant is second-degree murder. KU law student Jana Lynne Mackey, 25, was found deceased inside Garcia-Nunez's residence at 409 Michigan St. at 11:23 p.m. July 3. Garcia-Nunez was last seen driving a white Ford F-150 pick-up truck, which has been located in another state. Anyone with information regarding the location of Adolfo Garcia-Nunez is encouraged to call the Lawrence Police Department or Crimestoppers at 785-832-7509 or the Crimestoppers Hotline at 785-843-TIPS. The investigation is ongoing. No further information at this time. Any additional information will be posted at www.lawrencepolice.org when available. Lawrence Police initiated an investigation to locate Ms. Mackey after a friend reported her missing at 4:30 p.m. July 3. At 6:30 p.m., Lawrence Police located Ms. Mackey's vehicle in the Lawrence Memorial Hospital parking lot at Fourth and Michigan streets.

An NCAA men's basketball national championship and a FedEx Orange Bowl victory have helped make Lawrence a finalist for ESPN's "TitleTown USA." ESPN will air a taped segment featuring Lawrence and the Jayhawks Saturday morning on SportsCenter.

Travelers on the Kansas Turnpike will learn a little bit about the academic and athletic excellence of the University of Kansas thanks to two new signs installed July 2 outside Lawrence.

The University of Kansas Cancer Center has opened a Phase I clinical trial using Nanotax, a new ovarian cancer drug discovered and tested by KU scientists. This marks an important achievement toward meeting key criteria for obtaining National Cancer Institute designation.

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius signs a bill expanding KU's pharmacy school, the only one in the state. The move will nearly double the number of students admitted each year from 105 to 190. About 40 will be enrolled in a new satellite program in Wichita.
